Op 5 juni 2016 is de laagste temperatuur op Antarctica gemeten voor dit jaar tot nu: -76,8°C (-106,24°F). Het officiële record is nog altijd -89,22°C (-128,6°F). De gemiddelde temperatuur op de Zuidpool is -48,88°C (56°F).
